I click on 'Friend' button, next to their name etc, but nothing happens. Yep I got them to check F4. I also whispered them and they say they dont get the message. The character name is correct, the game can whisper them.

First, do you have the same client? If no, then no wonder you cannot connect to the same server. If yes, on the launcher you should be able to see just above the play button 'North America' or 'Europe', make sure you connect to the same region, otherwise you will not see the same servers. I have the same problem. Cant add my buddy its not working.
